Greg Reitz has a 29-20 (.592) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. He was named to the MAMVIC East Coach of the Year in 2012. Reitz is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 5-0 all-time against Siena Heights after posting a pair of victories earlier this season against the Saints. The Gray Wolves won the first meeting, a non-conference match, at Tam-o-Shanter on Feb. 12 in five sets before defeating Siena Heights in league play on March 12 in Adrian, Mich. in four sets. Lourdes is 2-0 all-time against the Saints at home.
Wrapping Up Recent Action: Lourdes split a pair of “home” matches last weekend as both contests were played at Springfield High School. The Gray Wolves swept Saint Xavier on Friday night (March 15), winning the third set in decisive fashion 25-10. Lourdes hit .282 in the match while holding the Cougars to just a .091 hitting night. Saturday afternoon (March 16) was the complete opposite as #4 Clarke downed the Gray Wolves in three sets. Lourdes hit just .078 in the loss while Clarke connected at a .317 rate.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints snapped a two-match losing streak on Saturday afternoon with a five-set victory over Saint Xavier at home. Siena Heights began the season with nine straight losses before registering a nine-match winning streak. Juan Paternina-Villero leads the Saints with 279 kills this season while hitting .305. He also leads the Saints with 49 service aces. Tim O'Brien has handed out a team-high 333 assists while Juan Sierra has recorded a team-leading 124 digs. Lucas Sagaert is the team's blocking leader with 53 rejections.
Thanks Seniors: Tuesday's match marks the final home contest for seniors
Nick DiMarco and
Zander Epps. The pair are the first two seniors in program history and the duo will be honored prior to the match. Both players earned All-MAMVIC East accolades last season for the Gray Wolves.
The Only Seed Set: Lourdes is locked into fourth place in the MAMVIC East standings as the regular season wraps up and knows they will serve as the number four seed in the conference tournament which takes place in Chicago, Ill. April 5-6. Lourdes is the only team locked into position heading into the final week of the regular season. The Gray Wolves will face the fifth seed, either Saint Xavier or Siena Heights, in the first round with the winner battling the top seed in the semifinals. Siena Heights can still finish in a tie for fifth or sixth, thus creating various scenarios at the bottom of the standings, while Saint Ambrose can still tie Cardinal Stritch for the top spot, or fall into a tie with Clarke for second and third.
Match #50: Lourdes is playing the 50th match in program history on Tuesday evening as the Gray Wolves host Siena Heights. The Gray Wolves are 29-20 through the first 49 contests all-time.
A Nice Stretch of Wins: Lourdes won four straight matches from Feb. 16-23, its second longest winning streak in program history. The Gray Wolves then matched that four-match winning streak March 5-15, but came short of the school mark set last year when the team won six consecutive contests from Feb. 18-26.
Digging Them Up: Brad Miller has registered 265 digs for Lourdes thus far this season, second most among all players in the country. The sophomore is averaging 3.2 digs per set, a mark that ranks tops among all NAIA players this season.
Killing Them: Nick DiMarco ranks fourth in the nation with 313 total kills this season. The senior's 4.1 kills per set also ranks third in all of NAIA.
A Common Opponent: Lourdes will face Siena Heights for the sixth time in program history on Tuesday night. The Gray Wolves have not met any other team more, having faced Saint Xavier and Saint Ambrose five times each.
Captains Named: Senior
Nick DiMarco and junior
Trevor Lund have been named team captains for the 2013 season. DiMarco led the Gray Wolves with 342 kills one season ago and will be a two-time team captain. Lund will be in his first season at Lourdes after transferring in from Irvine Valley College.
This and That: Brad Miller is the lone Gray Wolf to play in all 84 sets this season ...
Zander Epps and
Chris Lockwood both need 10 kills to reach 100 for the season ... the 10 points surrendered in the third set against Saint Xavier were the fewest allowed by the Gray Wolves this season.
