Lourdes University held its 13
th annual Awards Ceremony on Wednesday evening with several Gray Wolf student-athletes earning prestigious honors.
Men's basketball's
Corey Harvey (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson H.S.) and women's volleyball's
Ali Mass (Walbridge, Ohio/Tiffin Calvert H.S.) were named the Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Year for demonstrating a commitment to academic success and leadership among their teammates, peers, and within the Lourdes Community.
In addition, the Gray Wolves' softball team was the recipient of the Champions of Character Team Award given to the Lourdes athletic team who embodies the five core values of the NAIA Champions of Character program: integrity, sportsmanship, respect, servant leadership, and responsibility.
Other campus awards, in addition to the athletics honors, were also handed out on Wednesday night, with several students picking up honors. Men's volleyball player
Frank Craig (Jacksonville, Fla./Englewood H.S.) was the recipient of the Sr. Ann Francis Klimkowski Student Leader of the Year for displaying outstanding leadership and service throughout the academic year.
Baseball player
Joe Esposito (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) was honored with the St. Catherine Medal for representing the ideals and values of a Lourdes education. Esposito, and fellow teammate
Cole Fitzgerald (Rome, N.Y./Centerville [Ohio] H.S.), was also honored with the Student Government Association Award after serving as president and vice president respectively.
Finally,
Zander Epps (San Diego, Calif./Eastlake H.S.) from men's volleyball was recognized as part of the Poverty & Justice Issues course which undertook a challenge of renovating rooms at La Posada, a shelter for homeless families. The entire class was awarded the
Canticle of Praise Student Service Learning Award. In addition, Epps was recognized as one of several individuals who are national outstanding campus leaders based upon their academic achievement, service to the community, and leadership in extra-curricular activities and named to
Who's Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges.
