Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s Lacrosse Closes Season with Win at Franciscan

Lourdes University closed its second season of women's lacrosse on Sunday afternoon, recording a 12-10 victory on the road against Franciscan at Memorial Field in Steubenville, Ohio.

Alyssa Long (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn H.S.) scored eight times as the Gray Wolves ended the season 4-10 overall, posting three more wins than during the inaugural campaign in 2014.

"Our team played with a lot of heart and passion today," head coach Paul Sieben said following the win.  "Because of our limited roster today, we had a number of defensive players appearing in the midfield and they did an excellent job."

Lourdes started quickly, scoring four of the game's first five goals.  Jessie Frost (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) started the scoring just 2:30 into the game while Long followed with the Gray Wolves' next three goals.  Franciscan battled back before intermission, tying the game at four heading into the break.

The Barons continued their run in the second half, scoring three of the next four goals, with only a tally from Frost interrupting the 6-1 run, as the hosts built a 7-5 advantage.  Lourdes rallied though, scoring the next four goals, three by Long and the fourth from Anna Marie Weber (North Canton, Ohio/Jackson H.S.), to retake the lead.

Franciscan (2-7) found the back of the cage twice to tie the game at nine with under 20 minutes to play, only to have Long put Lourdes in front for good with back-to-back tallies.  Kristi Layman (Toledo, Ohio/Northview H.S.), the lone senior on the roster, closed her career by giving the Gray Wolves an insurance goal as Franciscan would cap the scoring in the final minute.

"We demonstrated the ability to comeback today," Seiben added.  "After they went on their long run we rebounded with a couple goals of our own."

Lourdes outshot Franciscan 27-21 on the afternoon, as Kiley Ketteman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson H.S.) made three saves and Margaret Janiga (East Aurora, N.Y/Nichols H.S.) made two stops in the cage for the Gray Wolves.

Mary Krolicki led the Barons with four goals and two assists.

Katie Cerveny (Erie, Mich./Mason Senior H.S.) handed out two assists for Lourdes while Frost and Weber led the team with four ground balls each.  Frost also had four draw controls.
