Lourdes scored the game's first nine goals on Saturday evening as the Gray Wolves cruised to an 18-5 victory over Cleary in the season opener played at The Legacy Center in Brighton, Mich.
"It was great to get out onto the field and play a game," head coach
Patrick Yannarelli said afterwards. "The guys worked very hard on competing in every facet of the game. The attack controlled the tempo, the faceoff guys fought hard, and the defense and goalie communicated well. We are happy to put game one behind us and are looking forward to practice and making some corrections."
Jay Fisher (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) started the scoring just 17 seconds into the game and
Dalton Vowles (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's H.S.) added another goal one minute later as Lourdes scored the game's first nine goals in the opening quarter.
After leading 9-1 after one, the Gray Wolves scored five more times in the second, building a 13-2 halftime lead and never looked back.
Danny Bichsel (Westerville, Ohio/North H.S.) scored six times and added four assists for a 10-point game while
Jared Yoshino (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) added three goals and five helpers to finish with eight points. Vowles also had a multi-goal effort, scoring twice while also adding two assists.
In goal,
Conner Mishler (Lambertville, Mich./Saint John's H.S.) made seven saves in the victory.
Peter Nichols scored two goals and added two assists while Dominik Treadway added two tallies for Cleary (0-4).
Lourdes (1-0) will head to Spartanburg, S.C. on Thursday afternoon to battle Wofford. The opening faceoff is set for 2 p.m. at Gibbs Stadium.
