Lourdes opened its 2016 season on Thursday afternoon with a 12-7 victory on the road over Pikeville at the Bob Amos Complex in Pikeville, Ky.

"We had a good well-rounded performance offensively and did a good job of clearing balls today," head coach
Paul Sieben said after the win.

After Pikeville scored the game's first goal, Lourdes tallied four straight markers and never trailed the rest of the way. The Gray Wolves built 9-4 advantage at the intermission after outshooting the Bears 21-9 in the opening 30 minutes.

Alyssa Long (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn H.S.) and
Klarque Scott (Chicago, Ill./Montini Catholic H.S.) each scored four times for Lourdes while
Jessie Frost (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) added three goals.Â
Haley Brown (Temperance, Mich./Bedford H.S.) also added her first goal of the season. Frost, Long, and
Shelby Kellar (Holland, Ohio/Saint Ursula H.S.) each had assists for Lourdes.

Shelby Campbell scored four times for Pikeville while Taylor Bussell added the other three Bear goals.

Defensively,
Hannah Cullis (Fort Worth, Texas/Central H.S.) collected four ground balls and caused four turnovers while Scott also tallied four ground balls. Scott and Kellar each had four draw controls as well.

"Hannah played solid defense all day," Sieben added.

Margaret Janiga (East Aurora, N.Y./Nichols H.S.) made the only four saves of the day for the Gray Wolves, playing the first 30 minutes in goal. Mandi Hord made 14 saves for the Bears.

Lourdes (1-0) is scheduled to return to action on Friday evening to face Columbia (S.C.) in a neutral site game. The opening draw is set for 6 p.m. at the Asbury Soccer Field in Wilmore, Ky.
