Lourdes saw its 2017 season come to a close on Wednesday afternoon, falling 3-0 to Madonna in the quarterfinals of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament held at the Madonna Soccer & Lacrosse Field in Livonia, Mich.

Jackie Donovan stated after the match. "Our seniors took this program to new heights and left the program in good hands."

The seventh-seeded Gray Wolves looked to strike first as
Karlie O'Keefe (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) had a chance inside the penalty area less than three minutes into the match, but Madonna netminder Julia Stewart turned her attempt aside.

Madonna, the tournament's second seed, took advantage of a Lourdes turnover in the 12
th minute, and Julia Henning went one-on-one with Gray Wolf goalkeeper
Kerstyn Williams (Taylor, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.), and scored to put the hosts in front 1-0.

Remy Houttekier (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Andover H.S.) nearly evened the match just before halftime, firing a shot from distance that just went above the crossbar. Madonna took the one-goal lead into the break after outshooting the Gray Wolves 7-2.

The Crusaders added to the lead just 2:57 into the second half as Nicolette Vultaggio scored in close to make it 2-0 Madonna. Caitlyn Lefebvre and Monica Brydges drew assists on the tally.

Tori Koontz (Chesterfield, Mich./L'anse Crevse North H.S.) had a chance to put the Gray Wolves on the scoreboard minutes later, but her shot rattled off of the crossbar.

Vultaggio added her second goal of the match with 34:38 to play to close the scoring.

Madonna (13-3-2) finished the match with a 24-6 shot advantage, including 12-2 on goal. Williams made seven stops in goal for the Gray Wolves while Stewart turned aside a pair of Lourdes opportunities. The Crusaders also had the only six corner kick opportunities in the match.

Lourdes' season comes to a close with an 8-8-2 record overall, matching the school record for victories in a year. The Gray Wolves also posted their first .500 season in program history.
