Lourdes Opens WHAC Play with 19-1 Win at Madonna

Playing on a snowy Friday afternoon at the Madonna Athletic Complex in Livonia, Mich., second-ranked Lourdes opened Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action with a convincing 19-1 victory over Madonna.

"We didn't allow the elements to play a part today," head coach Patrick Yannarelli said afterwards.  "It was a complete team effort and everyone played hard and smart."

Lourdes scored 10 goals in the opening quarter and coasted to its fifth victory of the season, remaining undefeated on the year.  The Gray Wolves outshot the Crusaders 52-11 for the day and held a 43-11 advantage in ground balls, including a 24-3 edge over the opening 30 minutes.

Dalton Vowles (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's H.S.) led the way with four goals and three assists, tallying all seven points in the opening quarter.  D.J. Harris (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg H.S.) added three goals while Mark O'Bryant (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights H.S.) had a five-point day with two goals and three assists.

Jared Yoshino (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) and Reuben Lopez (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) had multi-goal games as well.  John McInturf (Lewis Center, Ohio/Lentangy H.S.), Bret Sproul (Chelsea, Maine/Cony H.S.), Tyler Sproul (Chelsea, Maine/Cony H.S.), Drew Gilhooly (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central H.S.), Casey Hilfinger (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.), and Collin Miller (Royal Oak, Mich./Shrine Catholic H.S.) all found the back of the cage as well for the Gray Wolves.

Defensively, Jared Huiskens (Bay City, Mich./Central H.S.) made three stops in the first half to earn the win in goal while Sam Cleveland (Clackamas, Ore./Clackamas H.S.) made one second half stop.  Devin Larabel (Grandville, Mich./Grandville H.S.) led the way with seven ground balls.

Michael Kolodin scored the lone goal of the game for Madonna (1-5, 0-3 WHAC) with 2:48 remaining in the contest.
