The 2017 women's lacrosse season came to a close for Lourdes on Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves suffered a 14-4 defeat to third-ranked Lawrence Tech at the LTU Athletic Complex in Southfield, Mich.
The Blue Devils took the lead early, scoring five times in the game's first seven minutes to build a lead they would never relinquish.
Alyssa Long (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn H.S.) put the Gray Wolves on the scoreboard at the 22:47 mark, but
Shelby Kellar (Holland, Ohio/Saint Ursula H.S.) would be the only other Lourdes player to find the back of the cage in the opening 30 minutes, as the Gray Wolves trailed 10-2 at halftime.
Lawrence Tech scored the first three goals of the second half to build an 11-goal advantage, but back-to-back goals by Long and
Ashley Hunt (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May H.S.) pulled Lourdes back to within nine with 10:14 to play. The Gray Wolves were unable to find the back of the net the rest of the way though.
"We ended the season with an impressive second half," head coach
Paul Sieben said afterwards. "There was a lot of hustle right to the end."
Lawrence Tech (16-1, 13-1 WHAC) outshot Lourdes 31-13 for the game and held a 35-19 advantage in ground balls.
Kiley Ketteman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson H.S.) made seven saves in goal for Lourdes (5-11, 4-9) while Marie Klonowski made the same number of stops for the Blue Devils. Ketteman also led Lourdes with five ground balls while Long had five draw controls for the Gray Wolves.
