A walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh of game one helped Lourdes earn a Senior Night split with Cardinal Stritch on Friday evening, as the Gray Wolves defeated the Wolves 6-5 before falling 6-1 at Pacesetter Park.
Â
Lourdes fell behind in the opening inning of game one as Cardinal Stritch registered four hits and scored twice.
Â
The Gray Wolves tied the game in the second as
Olivia Stanton (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland H.S.) stole home as part of a double steal and
Erica Marvaso (Huron Township, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) delivered a RBI single to score
Taylor Tafelski (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.).Â
Kelsey Beck (Paulding, Ohio/Paulding H.S.) then put Lourdes in front in the third with a run-scoring single to plate
Meghan Birr (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores H.S.).
Â
After Cardinal Stritch tied the game 3-3 in the fifth, Lourdes responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Stanton doubled home
Lexi Ripperger (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame H.S.), who was pinch-running for
Marissa Kostick (Saint Charles, Mich./Saint Charles H.S.), and scored herself on a single by Marvaso.
Â
The Wolves tallied single runs in the sixth and seventh to tie the game before the Gray Wolves registered late-game heroics. Beck singled with one out and moved to second on Stanton's sacrifice bunt. Tafelski then delivered a RBI single to second, with Beck scoring all the way from second base with the game-winning run.
Â
Lourdes finished the game with 12 hits against Fatime Sino, who went the distance in the loss (9-9). Â
Samantha Shirling (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood H.S.) earned the win (3-6) in relief for the Gray Wolves.
Â
Cardinal Stritch (25-20) scored twice in the top of the first of game two as well and added another run in the fifth to build a 3-0 lead. Three more runs in the sixth, two of which were unearned, pushed the visitors' lead to six before Lourdes got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth. Beck singled home Birr with two outs for the Gray Wolves' lone run.
Â
Nadia Hazimeh had the complete game win (7-4) for the Wolves, allowing just six hits, with Birr being the only Gray Wolf with more than one. Kostick suffered the loss (6-10), allowing all six runs and 10 hits in 5.1 innings in the circle.
Â
Prior to the game Lourdes (14-28) honored its three seniors,
Marche' Venable (Youngstown, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney H.S.),
Kayla Encalado (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.), and Marvaso. All three seniors had at least one hit in their final doubleheader.
