Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Lourdes Suffers One-Goal Setback to Indiana at NAIA National Invitational

Lourdes had chances to tie the game late, but was unable to find the equalizer on Wednesday morning, as the Gray Wolves fell 13-12 to Indiana Tech in the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Invitational at Sirrine Stadium in Greenville, S.C.

"We are very grateful for the work that this senior class put in through their four years as the first men's lacrosse class at Lourdes," head coach Patrick Yannarelli said afterwards.  "Today's game showed how invested these students are.  They gave complete effort until the final whistle and we are very proud of where the program his headed.  I want to thank the coaches for all of their work throughout the season as well."

Lourdes trailed 11-9 heading into the final quarter, and fell behind by three goals when the Warriors found the back of the cage with 11:43 remaining in regulation.  Jared Yoshino (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) found the back of the net for his third goal of the game, 54th of the season, and 184th of his career, with 8:23 remaining to pull back within two.

Drew Gilhooly (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central H.S.) made it a one-goal game with 5:49 remaining, after receiving a feed from Tanner Jaramillo (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.).  The Gray Wolves had two chances with possession to tie the game over the next four minutes, but turned the ball over each time, and Indiana Tech (12-5) responded with what proved to be an important insurance goal as Chandler Peterson scored with 1:55 remaining.

The Gray Wolves pulled within one with 42 seconds to play when Dalton Vowles (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's Jesuit H.S.) scored his fifth goal of the game, taking advantage of a man-up opportunity, to make it 13-12.  The Gray Wolves won the face off, and had two shot attempts in the final 10 seconds to tie, but were unable to find the back of the cage.

Lourdes took the early lead as Yoshino and Cory Campbell (Dayton, Ohio/Bellbrook H.S.) scored in the first five minutes, but the Warriors answered to even the game at two at the end of the opening quarter.  Two more goals by Indiana Tech completed a 4-0 run before Yoshino and Vowles each scored within two minutes to tie the game at the 7:06 mark of the second.  Indiana Tech reclaimed the lead, but Vowles found the back of the cage two more times before intermission, the last with 59 seconds to play, to give Lourdes a 6-5 lead at the break.

Indiana Tech opened the third quarter with a pair of goals by Jace Childs, who finished the day with a game-high seven tallies.  Vowles and Gilhooly responded, and the game was tied at the 5:49 mark of the third.  The Warriors scored four times in the final four minutes of the quarter, but Casey Hilfinger's (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) tally with three seconds left in the stanza pulled Lourdes within two heading into the final quarter.

Lourdes finished the game with a 42-38 advantage in shots, but the Warriors had a 25-17 edge in shots on goal.  The Gray Wolves also had a 38-29 edge in ground balls.

Conner Mishler (Lambertville, Mich./Saint John's Jesuit H.S.) made 12 saves in the final game of his career, while Joe Dosen made five stops for Indiana Tech.  Gilhooly and Yoshino led the way with five ground balls each while John McInturf (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy H.S.) caused three turnovers to lead the Gray Wolf defense.

Lourdes ends its season 12-3 overall after making its second straight appearance in the NAIA National Invitational.
