Taking to the road for the first time in 2017, Lourdes suffered a 2-1 setback to Trinity International on Friday afternoon at Schartner Field in Deerfield, Ill.
Â
The first half was scoreless despite the Trojans holding a 10-3 shot advantage.Â
Kerstyn Williams (Taylor, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.), making her first collegiate start, made five saves to keep the hosts off the scoreboard.
Â
Lourdes struck first in the second half, less than five minutes out of the break.Â
Tori Koontz (Cheseterfield, Mich./L'anse Crevse North H.S.) sent a ball ahead to
Clare Ciarlino (Taylor, Mich./Truman H.S.), who got behind the defense and scored far post for the Gray Wolves' first goal of the season. For Ciarlino it was the seventh of her career, tying her with
Jada Foster for the all-time record at Lourdes. Koontz's assist was her fourth career helper, putting her into a tie with Ciarlino atop the school's all-time charts.
Â
The lead was short-lived though, as less than three minutes later, Trinity International evened the match as Heather Ortiz scored an unassisted tally. Rachel Conrady scored the match winner with 15:31 to play in the contest, converting on a penalty kick.
Â
Trinity International (3-1) outshot Lourdes 25-5 for the match, including 15-3 on goal.Â
Karlie O'Keefe (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) was the only Lourdes player with more than one shot attempt in the contest. Williams finished the match with 13 saves for the Gray Wolves, while Rebecca Wells made two saves in the win for the Trojans.
Â
Lourdes (0-2) will close out its weekend road trip on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Elgin, Ill. to face Judson. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. EDT at Dawson Field.
