Two goals just over five minutes apart during the first half proved to be more than enough for Lourdes on Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves earned their first win of the 2017, defeating Judson 2-0 at Dawson Field in Elgin, Ill.
Remy Houttekier (Bloomfield Hills, H.S./Andover H.S.) scored her first goal since 2015 in the 31
st minutes, a tally that proved to be the match-winner. She received a ball from
Clare Ciarlino (Taylor, Mich./Truman H.S.) at the top of the 18 and finished to the back corner, putting the Gray Wolves in front 1-0.
Ciarlino was then on the receiving end of a through ball from
Maddy Fleming (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay H.S.) and finished into the back of the net at the 35:55 mark to increase the advantage to 2-0, while giving Ciarlino three points for the match. The goal, the eighth during her stay at Lourdes, also gives her the outright program record for career goals.
Lourdes took the 2-0 lead into halftime, despite being outshot 10-5 in the frame.
Kerstyn Williams (Taylor, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) made six first half stops in goal for the Gray Wolves.
Neither team would find the back of the net in the final 45 minutes, and Lourdes finished its two-match road trip with the victory.
Judson (0-3) finished with a 10-5 shot advantage for the match, but the Gray Wolves had the only five corner kick opportunities in the match.
Kiley Transit (Royal Oak, Mich./Royal Oak H.S.) made three saves in the final 32 minutes for Lourdes after coming on in relief. Morgan Olsen made five saves for the Eagles in the loss.
Lourdes (1-2) will return to Wildcat Stadium next Saturday to begin a four-match homestand. The Gray Wolves will host Saint Xavier with kickoff set for 4 p.m.
