Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Lourdes Suffers 12-8 Loss at No. 8 Lawrence Tech to End Season

The 2018 men's lacrosse season came to a close on Saturday afternoon, as Lourdes suffered a 12-8 setback to eighth-ranked Lawrence Tech at the LTU Athletic Field in Southfield, Mich.

"Today was a tough ending to a season that can be described as 'very close' with multiple one-goal games," head coach Patrick Yannarelli said afterwards.  "We are grateful for the graduating players and very excited for the returning and incoming guys for next season.  We want to thank all the support staff and families for their help throughout the season.  We are determined to work hard in the offseason and come back ready next year."

D.J. Harris (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg H.S.) scored with eight seconds remaining before the end of the opening quarter to even the game at one and Cory Campbell (Dayton, Ohio/Bellbrook H.S.) put the Gray Wolves in front early in the second.

After the Blue Devils scored three straight, Campbell found the back of the cage twice in a two-minute span again bringing the Gray Wolves even, 4-4, with 8:02 to play before halftime.  That would be the final goals of the half for Lourdes, as Lawrence Tech scored three more times before break to take a 7-4 lead at intermission.

Casey Hilfinger (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) scored to open the third, but Lourdes would not find the back of the cage again until the 9:59 mark of the final stanza while Campbell scored his fourth of the game.  Drew Gilhooly (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central H.S.) and Hilfinger each scored one more time late for the Gray Wolves, but it was not enough to mount a rally.

Lawrence Tech (8-5, 4-3 WHAC) outshot Lourdes 37-24 for the game, including 21-14 on goal.  Jared Huiskens (Bay City, Mich./Central H.S.) made nine saves for the Gray Wolves between the pipes while Joel Trent made six stops for the Blue Devils in the win.

Lourdes held a slim 28-27 ground ball advantage, led by Jake Noel (Knoxville, Tenn./William Blount H.S.), who had seven for the Gray Wolves.  Noel also won 11 face-offs, as Lourdes finished with a 14-10 edge.

The Gray Wolves end the season 7-6 overall and 1-5 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, tied with Aquinas in the league standings.  Lourdes and the Saints will not make up their cancelled game from last weekend, as it will not affect the opportunity for postseason play for either team.
