Lourdes crossed the plate 23 times and banged out 28 hits on Sunday as the Gray Wolves split a doubleheader with Midway, dropping the opener 14-11 before bouncing back with a 12-9 victory at Gray Wolf Field.
 
Emily Wallace (Thornville, Ohio/Lakewood H.S.) had six hits and drove in eight runs on the day for Lourdes.  The sophomore homered twice, including a grand slam.  Katie Devine (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green H.S.) drove in six runs over the two games.
 
In the opener, Devine delivered a two-run double in the bottom of the second to tie the game at two before the Eagles plated seven in the top of the fourth.  The Gray Wolves answered with three in the bottom of the frame, two on a single by Alyssa Ziegler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) and another on a base hit by Megan Richardson (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.).
 
Midway responded with three in the top of the fifth and pushed the lead to nine, 14-5, with two more in the top of the seventh before the Gray Wolves tried to rally late.  The first four batters in the seventh reached, with Devine singling home two.  Wallace tallied her third hit of the game, a grand slam to left, to make it a 14-11 game.  Lourdes put two more runners on base with two outs in the seventh, bringing the tying run to the plate, but was unable to come up with one more big hit.
 
Both teams scored a run in the opening frame of game two, with Lourdes tying the game at one on a RBI single by Kim Waters (Belleville, Mich./Lincoln H.S.).  After Midway (8-16) plated four in the top of the second, the Gray Wolves sent 13 batters to the plate in the bottom of the inning, scoring eight times.  Annalisse Palma (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview H.S.) singled home one before Wallace had a bases clearing double to tie the game.  Richardson added a run-scoring single while Kayla Gauthier (Linwood, Mich./Pinconning H.S.) plated another on a groundout.  Devine added another RBI on a bases loaded walk.
 
Wallace hit a solo home run in the third to make it 10-5 Gray Wolves while Devine and Palma each delivered run-scoring hits in the fourth.  Midway plated four in the sixth to pull within three but was unable to complete the comeback.
 
Ashley Roth (LaRue, Ohio/Elgin H.S.) earned the win (2-2), tossing five innings of relief.  She gave up four runs, only three of which were earned, and four hits while striking out three.
 
Lourdes (2-13) will close out its six-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.  First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 4 p.m. at Gray Wolf Field.
