Lourdes Wins Second Straight, Downs Montreat Sunday

Lourdes jumped out to a seven-goal lead midway through the second quarter and never trailed in the game on Sunday afternoon, defeating Montreat 14-12 at Pulliam Stadium in Black Mountain, N.C.

"It was an all-around team effort for our first road victory," head coach Patrick Yannarelli said afterwards. "We were able to overcome some adversity and win as a team."

Cory Campbell (Dayton, Ohio/Bellbrook H.S.) wasted little time putting the Gray Wolves on the scoreboard just 51 seconds into the game, the first of five goals and six points on the afternoon for the senior.  Drew Gilhooly (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central H.S.) followed with a goal midway through the opening quarter before the Cavaliers answered with a pair of goals to tie the game at two.

Campbell started a 7-0 Gray Wolf run that carried into the second quarter, as Lourdes built a 9-2 advantage.  Nick Johnson (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) scored three straight times and Jonny Thomson (Toronto, Ont./Everest Academy) tallied two more during the run while Tyler Pezzot (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek H.S.) also found the back of the cage.

Montreat (1-4) scored twice before the end of the half and added two more goals out of intermission, pulling within three midway through the third quarter.  The teams traded goals throughout the remainder of the quarter as the Gray Wolves took a 12-8 advantage into the final 15 minutes.

The Cavaliers opened the fourth with four consecutive goals to pull within one.  Campbell ended the run with back-to-back tallies to extend the lead back to three before Montreat scored one final goal in the game's final 90 seconds.

Montreat outshot Lourdes 37-34 for the game but Tyler Queen (Odenton, Md./Arundel H.S.) made 10 saves in goal for the Gray Wolves in the victory.

Lourdes held a 48-26 advantage in ground balls, with Jake Noel (Knoxville, Tenn./William Blount H.S.) collecting 12 in addition to winning 13-of-17 faceoffs.  Zach Stahura (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater H.S.) won 10-of-13 draws and added eight groundballs.

Lourdes (2-0) will remain on the road Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves travel to Williamsburg, Ky. to face Cumberlands (Ky.).
