Lourdes honored its four seniors between games of Tuesday's doubleheader at Gray Wolf Field, but Madonna interrupted the celebration by sweeping the Gray Wolves 7-1 and 5-1.
After the Crusaders scored a quick run in the top of the first of game one, Lourdes tied the game in the bottom of the frame.
Annalisse Palma (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview H.S.) doubled with one out and scored two batters later on a RBI single by
Hailey Cramer (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.).
Madonna took the lead for good in the second, scoring five times while sending 10 batters to the plate. The Crusaders would add a final tally in the seventh.
After three hits in the opening inning, Lourdes managed just four the rest of the way. Palma and
Kayla Gauthier (Linwood, Mich./Pinconning H.S.) each had two hits for the Gray Wolves.
In game two, Madonna (23-5, 12-2 WHAC) scratched across a run in the third and carried the 1-0 lead into the sixth before a two-run home run extended the lead. Lourdes responded in the bottom of the inning as Cramer's triple down the rightfield line plated Palma.
The Crusaders added two final runs in the seventh for insurance.
Alyssa Ziegler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) and
Ashley Riley (Oak Harbor, Ohio/Oak Harbor H.S.) each had two of the Gray Wolves' seven hits in game two. Riley also went the distance in the circle.
Between games, Gauthier and Ziegler joined fellow seniors
Alexis Nowowiecki (Saint Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview H.S.) and
Kim Waters (Belleville, Mich./Lincoln H.S.) as part of the Senior Day ceremony.
Lourdes (6-29, 3-13) takes to the road on Wednesday afternoon to face the University of Northwestern Ohio. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is set for 3:30 p.m. at Racer Field in Lima, Ohio.
