Erin Caldwell's (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing H.S.) first goal of the season with just 8:46 to play in regulation allowed Lourdes to pull even with Holy Cross (Ind.) on Tuesday afternoon as the two schools played to a 1-1 double overtime draw at Saints Field in Notre Dame, Ind.
Trailing by a goal late in the match,
Abigail Mann (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) sent a restart toward the goal which Caldwell redirected into the net for her sixth career goal. Mann's assist was her first of the year and seventh of her career.
"Midday road games can always be a challenge," head coach
Jackie Phillips said afterwards. "I think what we lacked in sharpness we made up for with heart."
Holy Cross (3-1-1) took the lead 20:28 into the first half as Lauren Cernak scored on a give-and-go with Olivia Shaw, giving the Saints a lead they would take into the final minutes.
Lourdes finished the match with a 17-13 shot advantage, including a 10-9 edge on goal.
Emmy Rodger (Romeo, Mich./Romeo H.S.), who entered the match with just over 30 minutes to play in the second half, made five saves over the 50 minutes she played in net. Taylor Primack made nine stops in going the distance in goal for the Saints.
Lourdes (1-0-2) concludes its season-opening four-match road trip on Saturday evening as the Gray Wolves travel to Portsmouth, Ohio. Kickoff against Shawnee State is set for 5 p.m. at Shawnee Turf Field.
