Lourdes closed out its 2022 season on Saturday afternoon, falling 2-0 on the road against Madonna in the semifinals of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament at the Madonna Athletic Complex in Livonia, Mich.
"Obviously this was not the result we were hoping for today, but this group had a tremendous season overall," head coach
Jackie Phillips said afterwards. "We also need to take a moment and thank the seniors for the dedication, time, and sacrifice for this program."
The second-seeded Crusaders took the lead just 10:22 into the match as Sydnie Voss found the back of the net with Morgan Stack drawing the assist. Madonna (15-4-1) doubled its lead with 17:54 to play before halftime as Voss found Holly McManus, who scored the second goal of the match.
Madonna outshot Lourdes 6-0 in the opening 45 minutes. The Gray Wolves and Crusaders were even in shots in the second half at 5-5 but neither team would find the back of the goal the rest of the way.
Emmy Rodger (Romeo, Mich./Romeo H.S.) made three saves in goal for Lourdes (9-5-4), as the Gray Wolves' campaign ends having set a single season record for victories. Brooke Bruletti made one stop to earn the shutout for Madonna.
