Lourdes Softball Registers Third Consecutive Split

For the third time this week Lourdes split a doubleheader, as the Gray Wolves defeated Lawrence Tech 10-2 in game one on Sunday before falling 6-5 in the nightcap at Gray Wolf Field.

The Gray Wolves started quick in the opener, plating a pair of runs in each of the first two innings.  Emily Wallace's (Thornville, Ohio/Lakewood H.S.) two-run double in the second put Lourdes in front 4-0.

After Lawrence Tech plated two in the third, Lourdes answered in the bottom of the inning as Ella Leonard (Lorain, Ohio/Midview H.S.) singled home Brooke Albert (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights H.S.).  Megan Richardson (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) homered in the fourth as the Gray Wolves increased the lead to 6-2.

A three-run fifth broke the game open before a bases loaded walk to Sophia Dauterman (Toledo, Ohio/Whiteford H.S.) in the sixth ended the game.

Kirsten Smith (Marysville, Mich./Marysville H.S.) went the distance in the circle, allowing just one earned run and three hits while striking out five to pick up the win (5-5).

In game two, Lawrence Tech (5-25, 2-8 WHAC) scored in the top of the first before the Gray Wolves answered with three in the bottom of the frame.  A fielder's choice in the third made it a 4-2 lead before Leonard's sacrifice fly in the fifth pushed the lead to 5-2.

The Blue Devils rallied in the seventh, scoring four times, including a two-run, two out double, to take the lead and held on in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win.

Lourdes (8-13, 3-5) returns to the diamond on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Northwestern Ohio.  First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. at Gray Wolf Field.
