Lourdes won a pair of individual matches on Friday evening but closed the dual meet portion of its schedule with a 33-9 setback to 10
th-ranked Indiana Tech inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
"I thought we wrestled well in spurts but did not put it all together enough to beat a solid team like Indiana Tech," head coach
Louis Piszker said afterwards. "We will look to clean some things up before heading town to Bowling Green for the conference tournament."
Stefana Jelacic (Mesa, Ariz./Chandler H.S.), ranked eighth in the latest NAIA poll, picked up a 10-2 decision for the Gray Wolves at 109 pounds over Tehani Soares, who entered the match ranked third nationally.
Payton Curley (Dover, Ohio/Dover H.S.) trailed 8-2 at 155 pounds against Erin Riggle before flipping the match, scoring a pin with just three seconds left in the opening period. Curley also wrestled an exhibition match, earning a 6-5 decision.
Maria Hoffman (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) was involved in the highest scoring match of the day, suffering a 17-6 tech fall at 123.
Brielle Newland (Reedsville, Ohio/Eastern H.S.) and
Bailey Hackett (Brookfield, Ohio/Brookfield H.S.) both suffered tech fall setbacks as well while
Megan Litomisky (Morrice, Mich./Perry H.S.) was pinned in the first period.
Lourdes (1-8, 0-6 MSC) will have three weeks off before returning to the mat at the Mid-South Conference Championships on Feb. 24. Action begins at 10 a.m. EST inside Ephram White Gym in Bowling Green, Ky.
