Lourdes Closes Non-Conference Play with Fifth Straight Win

Lourdes won its final tune-up prior to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Thomas More 12-4 at Republic Bank Stadium in Crestview Hills, Ky.

Nick Johnson (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) scored three times while Caden Louthan (Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs H.S.), Jake Busta (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad H.S.), and Garrett Boersma (Norco, Calif./Norco H.S.) each added a pair of goals.

Xavier Dockery (Boston, Mass./Westerville North H.S.) put Lourdes in front just 2:10 into the contest with his first goal of the season.  The Gray Wolves would add another in the opening period and lead 3-1 in the closing seconds of the half when Boersma just beat the halftime horn to give Lourdes a three-goal advantage at intermission.

Lourdes would score all three of the third quarter goals and increase the lead to 9-1 midway through the fourth before Thomas More (1-8) finally broke through again.  The Gray Wolves added three more goals in the final stanza, the final one by Kalani Hale (Charleston, W. Va./Capital H.S.) before the Saints found the back of the cage twice in the final minutes.

The Gray Wolves finished with a 31-13 shot advantage and a 27-19 edge in ground balls.  Jack Durham (Zeeland, Mich./East H.S.) and Noah Loth (Fort Worth, Texas/Aledo H.S.) each had a team-high four ground balls while Jack Bichsel (Westerville, Ohio/North H.S.) made four saves in goal.

Nick Boriin had two goals and an assist to pace Thomas More offensively.

Lourdes (5-0) opens WHAC play on Saturday evening as the Gray Wolves travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to battle Aquinas.  The opening faceoff is set for 5 p.m. at the Aquinas Athletic Field.
