Lourdes opened up its week in the Sunshine State on Sunday afternoon, falling 11-0 to St. Thomas and 8-5 to Roosevelt at Launch Pad Sports Complex in Cocoa, Fla.
 
"I was glad to see us battle back and show some grit after falling behind in game two," head coach Caitlin Blanchard said afterwards.  "The bats started to come alive late in game two and we hope to carry that over into tomorrow.  Defensively, we need to not give up free bases and make routine plays."
 
In the opener, the Lourdes bats were stymied until two outs in the fifth.  Maddie Darrah (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) broke up the perfect game with a double into left for the Gray Wolves' lone base runner of the game.
 
St. Thomas (12-0) jumped in front with two in the first before breaking the game open with seven in the third inning.
 
Roosevelt (3-5) took the lead in game two with a pair of runs in the first and two more in the third before the Lourdes bats came alive.  Emily Wallace (Thornwood, Ohio/Lakewood H.S.) led off the fourth with a home run.  Elizabeth Valdez (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.) drove home a run with a single and Megan Richardson (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) scored on a wild pitch to pull the Gray Wolves within one, 4-3.
 
The Lakers added a run in the fifth before the Gray Wolves pulled even in the sixth.  Maddy Donaldson (Trenton, Mich./Trenton H.S.) delivered a pinch-hit single to plate Darrah, who doubled to lead off the inning.  Vivianna Gonzalez (Brownstown, Mich./Cabrini H.S.) tied the game with a fielder's choice, scoring Elizabeth Valdez (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.), who had drawn a walk.
 
Roosevelt took advantage of a walk, a hit batter, and an error in the sixth to score three unearned runs that proved to be the difference.
 
Wallace finished with three hits while Valdez had two more as part of a 10-hit attack.
 
Lourdes (0-4) will head to USSSA Space Coast in Melbourne, Fla. on Monday morning to face Park at 9 a.m. and Fort Lauderdale at 11:30 a.m.
