Lourdes began its final road trip of the regular season on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 12-7 setback to Taylor at Wheeler Field in Upland, Ind.
The Gray Wolves started strong, building a 3-2 lead after the opening quarter behind goals from
Caden Louthan (Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs H.S.),
Brock Meomartino (Cumberland, R.I./Cumberland H.S.), and
Jake Busta (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad H.S.).
Taylor (3-8, 1-5 WHAC) scored all five second quarter goals to take a 7-3 lead at the midway point. Louthan scored his second goal of the game just 53 seconds out of intermission, but the Trojans scored the next five goals to push the lead to 12-4.
Nick Johnson (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.),
Darin Briscoe (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Kingston College), and Louthan added three late tallies to round out the scoring.
Lourdes outshot Taylor for the game 38-33 with
Jack Bichsel (Westerville, Ohio/North H.S.) making nine saves for the Gray Wolves. Meomartino picked up seven ground balls while
Ryan Shaffer (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick H.S.) caused three turnovers.
Lourdes (6-5, 1-5) closes out the road portion of the 2023 regular season on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves head to Adrian, Mich. to face Siena Heights. The opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at O'Laughlin Stadium.
