Moving up games three days to avoid bad weather over the weekend, Lourdes dropped the opener of Wednesday's doubleheader 3-1 before defeating first place Indiana Tech 7-1 in game two at Warrior Field in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Â
Indiana Tech took the lead in the opener with a run in the first inning before Lourdes tied the game in the third.Â
Elizabeth Valdez (Toledo, Ohio/Start H.S.) reached on an error and moved all the way around to third. One batter later, Valdez scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Brooke Albert (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights H.S.) to even the game at one.
Â
The game remained tied into the bottom of the fifth when the Warriors took the lead for good on a two-run, two-out single by Kennedi Sullivan which proved to be the difference.
Â
Abby Cantrell (Gibsonburg, Ohio/Gibsonburg H.S.) had two of the Gray Wolves' four hits in the opener.Â
Â
Lourdes struck quickly in game two as
Megan Richardson's (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon H.S.) bases loaded double in the first plated a pair of runs. The Warriors cut the lead in half with a single run in the bottom of the second.
Â
Viviana Gonzalez (Brownstown, Mich./Cabrini H.S.) drove in a run in the third with a bases loaded infield single to push the lead back to two. Albert then cleared the bases with a three-run double to increase the lead to 6-1.
Â
Kirsten Smith (Marysville, Mich./Marysville H.S.) added a seventh run for the Gray Wolves with a RBI double in the fifth, helping out her own cause in the circle. Pitching, Smith went the distance, scattering seven hits while allowing just the one run. She struck out three in the win.
Â
Lourdes (10-24, 5-13) closes out the road portion of its schedule on Sunday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Howell, Mich, to face Cleary. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. at Lake Trust Stadium.
