Lourdes Drops League Opener to Campbellsville

Final Results

Lourdes opened its Mid-South Conference slate on Thursday evening, dropping a 38-8 decision to ninth-ranked Campbellsville inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

"We came up against a great opponent tonight," head coach Louis Piszker said afterwards.  "We wrestled well in spots tonight but not enough to hang with a well-coached team like that.  We will have a short memory and come back for a long day of wrestling tomorrow."

Lourdes opened the match strong as Shanna Morris (Marion, Ohio/Harding H.S.) scored an 8-5 decision over NAIA 19th-ranked Riley Banyas.  Morris jumped out to a 7-0 lead after one period on her way to improving to 12-5 on the year.

Campbellsville (10-3, 1-0 MSC) won the next eight weight classes.  The Tigers registered a fall at 130 and won via 10-0 tech falls at 123, 136, and 143 while picking up forfeit victories at 109, 116, 155, and 170.

The Gray Wolves closed out the match on a high note though.  Allie Phillips (Los Angeles, Calif./Keppel H.S.) needed just 39 seconds to record her fourth pin of the season.  The Gray Wolf, ranked 18th in the latest NAIA poll, is now 10-1 on the season.

Lourdes (5-4, 0-1) will head to Fort Wayne, Ind. on Friday to take part in the Warrior Duals hosted by Indiana Tech.  The Gray Wolves will wrestle five MSC contests, facing St. Andrews at 2 p.m., Life at 3 p.m., Brewton Parker at 4 p.m., Cumberlands (Ky.), at 5 p.m., and Siena Heights at 6 p.m.
