Women's Soccer Historic Season Ends with 2-0 Loss to Aquinas in WHAC Semifinals

Lourdes finishes with a program-record 13 wins, marking the best season in the program's 10-year history.

SYLVANIA, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) – The Lourdes University women's soccer team saw their historic 2024 season come to an end with a 2-0 loss to top-seeded Aquinas College in the semifinals of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Championship Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The Gray Wolves, who finished the season with a program-best 13-4-1 overall record and a 9-3 mark in the WHAC, battled valiantly but were unable to overcome the Saints, who scored once in each half to secure the victory. Both goals came from WHAC Offensive Player of the Year Sydney Shenk, who played a pivotal role in Aquinas' advancement to the finals.

This semifinal appearance capped off the program's best season in its 10-year history. The 2024 campaign featured a 13-4-1 overall record and a 9-3 mark in the WHAC, both program records. The Gray Wolves also made their second-ever appearance in the WHAC semifinals, advancing this year as the No. 4 seed.

Head coach Jackie Phillip and the Gray Wolves made history by earning their highest-ever conference finish and clinching a program-record 9 WHAC victories. The 2024 team surpassed the 2022 squad, which had previously set the single-season wins record with 9 victories and also reached the semifinals of the WHAC tournament.

Match Notes:

  • Head Coach Jackie Phillip (72-82-20) finished the regular-season 13-4-1, the best in program history. Prior to the 2024 campaign, the 2022 team held the record for most single-season wins with their nine. That squad finished the regular-season 9-5-4.
  • Additionally, the team's 9-3 conference record marks a program-record, topping the six conference wins from the 2022 campaign. In that season, the Gray Wolves finished 6-4-1 in the WHAC and advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Lawrence Tech University, 1-0 in the opening-round. Lourdes then fell 2-0 to Madonna in the semi's, which was the first semi-finals appearance for the Gray Wolves, to conclude the post-season.
  • The women's team has made an appearance in six WHAC tournaments. However, this season's marks the first that the Gray Wolves have hosted and the second advancing to the semi's following the 2022 team.
