LIMA, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) -- The Lourdes University softball team dropped both games of a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader to the University of Northwestern Ohio on Saturday, falling 13-1 in game one, before dropping the second 16-1, both in five innings.
Game One: Lourdes 1, UNOH 13 (Five Innings)
The Gray Wolves struck first in the opening frame when Maddie Darrah singled to third base, driving in Alyssa Goretzka for a 1-0 lead. However, Northwestern Ohio responded immediately, taking a 2-1 lead on a two-run homer in the bottom of the first.
The Racers continued to build on their lead in the third inning, scoring seven runs. By the end of the third inning, the Racers held a commanding 10-1 lead.
Northwestern Ohio added three more unearned runs in the fourth to complete the 13-1 victory. Lourdes had a tough time finding consistency at the plate, recording just four hits in the game. Darrah, Goretzka, and Taylor Leggins each picked up a hit for the Gray Wolves.
Kirsten Smith (2-7) took the loss in the circle, allowing seven runs (four earned) over 3.1 innings of work. Berlynn Keller came in for relief, surrendering six runs on four hits over 0.2 innings.
Racer pitcher Lauren Wooten (17-7) earned the win, limiting Lourdes to just one run on four hits in five innings while striking out four.
Game Two: Lourdes 1, UNOH 16 (Five Innings)
In game two, the Gray Wolves were held to just one hit by the Racers, who exploded for 16 runs across five innings. Northwestern Ohio got off to a fast start, leading 3-0 after the first inning and continuing to build momentum with a 10-run third inning. Lourdes' only run came in the fifth when Liv Hussar grounded out to first, allowing Abby Sparks to cross the plate.
Sparks, who recorded the Gray Wolves' lone hit of the game, had a double, while Hussar finished with one RBI. Mallori Bradley (3-6) took the loss after allowing 13 earned runs in 2.2 innings. Karlei Conard came in for relief, tossing 1.1 innings, surrendering two earned runs.
On the other side, Northwestern Ohio's K. McGlothen (10-8) earned the win, tossing a complete game and allowing just one hit, one run, and three walks.

Lourdes softball returns to Gray Wolf Field on Thursday, April 24, for a doubleheader against Siena Heights. First pitch is set for 3:30 PM, followed by the second game at 5:30 PM. The day will also honor the seniors as part of Senior Day festivities.
