VIERA, Fla. – The Lourdes softball team (3-6, 0-0 in WHAC) crushed the Fisher College Falcons (0-5), 18-1 on Thursday morning in the final game of the Space Coast Spring Break Tournament.
The Gray Wolves finished the tournament with a 3-4 record and now have a 3-6 overall record this season. They improved their overall team average from .181 at the start of the tournament to .246 by the end of the tournament. The team's depth, pitching staff, and defense have also improved as the tournament has gone.
Fresh off her win in Lourdes' combined no-hitter, freshman
Elena Scott got the start in the game against Fisher, giving up one earned run on one hit in two innings of work.
Getting the victory was
Karlei Conard, who came in for Scott in the third inning. Conard gave up just one base runner via a walk in three innings of work. She also struck out four Falcons' hitters during her time on the mound. Conard also got the start at shortstop and went two-for-four with two RBI's and a triple.
Lourdes' offense set season-highs in both runs (18) and hits (12) in the win. The scoring started immediately in the first inning after
Olivia Rompf,
Zoe Ziems, and
Abby Sparks each got singles to drive in runs. The Gray Wolves were up 4-0 after the first.
Conard's triple in the third inning emptied the bases as Lourdes eventually went up 9-1.
Olivia Hickman produced three runs off singles in the third inning as the Lourdes lineup eventually batted around. After the score was 10-1, the Fisher pitching staff walked
Zoe Ziems and hit
Abby Sparks to extend the Lourdes lead to 12-1. The third inning resulted in seven total runs coming across to score.
The fourth inning started with
Ava Auler,
Karlei Conard, and
Jessyca Smith getting on base. Lourdes' top run producer, and top slugger,
Lindsey McGann, hit a bases clearing pinch-hit double to put Lourdes up 15-1. McGann was later scored in the inning off of a
Taylor Leggins single to put Lourdes up by 15 runs. McGann got her fourth RBI of the game in the fifth inning after walking in a run.
Stats
Despite starting the game on the bench,
Lindsey McGann still produced the most runs in the game with four RBI's. The shortstop leads the team with seven RBI's and also has the most extra base hits. Centerfielder
Cami Heath got moved to the leadoff spot and went two-for-three in the game. Heath leads the team with a .462 average, which ranks fourth in the WHAC.
Skylar Mitchell exits the tournament with the team's second best average at .313, while
Ava Auler rounds out the top three at .296.
