Irene Okubo was hired as the Lourdes University head women’s lacrosse coach in August of 2019 as the third head coach in program history.
Okubo arrived at Lourdes from Adrian College, where she spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the Bulldogs. She helped guide Adrian to an 8-7 record in 2019, the program’s best record since 2014. In addition, she aided in producing an All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association selection.
Prior to Adrian, Okubo served as the assistant girls lacrosse coach at Lane Tech College Prep High School in Chicago, where she helped lead the varsity program to their fourth consecutive city championship. She was also a part of the program when it became the first Chicago Public School to win a state playoff game.
Okubo played collegiate lacrosse at Norwich University, where she was a First Team All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference goalie during her career. She was also a member of the Cadets’ club ice hockey team.
Okubo is a 2015 graduate of Norwich University with a degree in physical education.
