Michael Scarano started his role as Director of Athletics at Lourdes University in January of 2026. Scarano has over 45 years of experience in collegiate athletics, working in a wide variety of programs ranging from Division-1 to NAIA levels. He has a deep background in the athletic director role, program-building, compliance, coaching, teaching, and overall leadership.Â
Scarano last worked in collegiate athletics as the Associate Director of Athletics at California Baptist University from 2013 to 2023. He oversaw the Lancers' athletic programs as both a Division-2 program in the Pacific West Conference and as a Division-1 program in the Western Athletic Conference. Scarano was heavily involved in California Baptist, directly managing NCAA, conference and institutional compliance programs for department and other constituents of the University.
Prior to working with the Lancers, Scarano worked as the Director of Athletics for Waldorf University in Forest City, Iowa from 2010 to 2013. Like Lourdes, the Warriors are an NAIA program, currently competing in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Scarano worked for the University of California Riverside prior to his stint at Waldorf, marking the lengthiest stop of his career, as he was with the Highlanders for 12 years from 1998 to 2010. Scarano's role at UC-Riverside saw him build their Division-2 compliance program from the ground up and then transition that program in to Division-1 standards in the 2000-2001 season.Â
In the late 80's and 90's, Scarano worked in a variety of roles for the Division-2 program, the University of Alabama-Huntsville. He started with the Chargers as the men's basketball coach from 1985 to 1988. He then moved to coaching the women's basketball team from 1991 to 1993 as well as the cross-country team from 1992 to 1998. While holding these coaching roles, he was also the Assistant Director of Athletics and a course instructor.
Scarano is also the current President and Founder of Provident Sports Consulting, a position he has held since December of 2023.Â
