Errors Plague Lourdes in Softball Losses

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Lourdes committed seven errors over two games which led to seven unearned runs as the Gray Wolves dropped a pair of games on Friday at Hancock Park in Clermont, Fla.  The Gray Wolves fell 10-4 to Grace in the opener before losing 3-1 to Spring Arbor in game number two.

In the opener Grace scored a run in the top of the first before Lourdes fought back to take the lead in the bottom of the inning.  Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) singled home Lauren Marstin (Brookneal, Va./William Campbell H.S.) to tie the game and Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) put the Gray Wolves on top after scoring on a throwing error.

The Lancers scored two more unearned runs in the second and another in the third to take a 4-2 lead, taking advantage of four Lourdes errors in the game.  Grace added three more runs in the fourth, the big blow a two-run home run by Danielle Wellman.

After the Lancers increased the advantage to 8-2, Megyesi hit her third home run of the season, a two-run shot, to pull the Gray Wolves within four in the fifth inning.

Grace (4-6) added two more runs in the sixth to close out the scoring.

Marstin had two hits to lead Lourdes, as the Gray Wolves had just five in the game.  Tiffany Featherston had three hits to lead Grace's 13-hit outburst.

Olivia Wignet earned the win in the circle for the Lancers, tossing a complete game while Kasey Graham (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) suffered the loss, pitching four innings for Lourdes.  She gave up seven runs, only four of which were earned on eight hits.

The game against Spring Arbor was a pitcher's duel for the first five innings as Casey Cherry (Comstock Park, Mich./Comstock Park H.S.) and April Patnaude both put up zeros on the scoreboard.

In the sixth, Mosiniak hit her first round-tripper as a collegian to put Lourdes on top 1-0.

Spring Arbor scored three times in the bottom of the sixth though without the aid of a hit.  The Cougars took advantage of two errors, two hit batters, and a walk to score the unearned runs.

Lourdes had just three hits in the game while Spring Arbor (1-0) tallied just two.  Patnaude earned the win, striking out four in the complete game effort, while Cherry gave up the three unearned runs in 5.1 innings and fanned two.

Lourdes (2-8) will conclude play on its spring trip on Saturday with two more games.  The Gray Wolves will face Hillsdale at 11 a.m. before a rematch with Spring Arbor at 1 p.m.
