Lourdes Drops Two to Close Florida Trip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Lourdes University wrapped up its first spring trip to Clermont, Fla. on Saturday afternoon, dropping a pair of games at Hancock Park.  The Gray Wolves fell 16-1 in the opener against NCAA Division II Hillsdale before losing 12-4 in the second contest to Spring Arbor.

In the opener against Hillsdale, the Chargers scored twice in the first and four times in the second before Lourdes found the scoreboard in the bottom of the second.  Ashley Yeager (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) led off with a single and stole second.  With two outs, Chelsea Goebel (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) drove home Yeager with a single.

That would be the lone run for the Gray Wolves though, as Hillsdale (1-4) scored in each of the next three innings to invoke the run rule, including five times in the third and three more in the fourth.

Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) led Lourdes with two of the team's seven hits.  Jenny Bals and Miriam McKay led the Chargers with three RBI each.

Casey Cherry (Comstock Park, Mich./Comstock Park H.S.) started and took the loss (1-4) for Lourdes, allowing 11 runs, only five earned, and 11 hits in 3.1 innings of work.  Sarah Klopfer went the distance for the victory for Hillsdale.

Game two saw Lourdes take an early 1-0 lead in the second inning.  Taylor Duvall (Newport, Mich./Jefferson H.S.) led off with a hit and moved around the bases on a sacrifice bunt and a passed ball.  Yeager then delivered a run-scoring single to put the Gray Wolves on the board.

The lead was short-lived though, as the Cougars plated two runs in the bottom of the inning and added four more in the third on the way to taking a 7-1 lead through four innings.  Lourdes battled back with a pair of runs in the fifth as Goebel walked and Megyesi followed with a walk.  After Lauren Marstin (Brookneal, Va./William Campbell H.S.) singled to load the bases, Hayley Roberts (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) and Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) delivered back-to-back sacrifice flies.

The Gray Wolves cut the deficit to three, 7-4, in the sixth as Yeager tripled and scored on a sac fly by Taylor Derr (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer H.S.).

Spring Arbor (3-1) plated five runs in the bottom of the sixth though to close out the game.

Marstin and Yeager had two hits each for Lourdes while Erika Lehr went 3-for-4 with six runs batted in to pace the Cougars.

April Patnaude earned the win, tossing three innings of relief for Spring Arbor while Kasey Graham (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) suffered the loss, going the distance in the circle.

Lourdes (2-10) will return north and travel to Goshen, Ind. on Friday for a doubleheader against Goshen College.  First pitch against the Maple Leafs is set for 3 p.m.
