Lourdes Softball Rallies to Earn Doubleheader Split with Siena Heights

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Lourdes battled back in game two of Sunday's doubleheader to defeat Siena Heights 6-2 after dropping the opening game of the twinbill to the Saints 7-4 at Pacesetter Park.

The Gray Wolves struck first in the nightcap as Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) doubled home Ashley Yeager (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.), who also had doubled, with the game's first run in the opening inning.

Two doubles and a single in the third gave the Saints a 2-1 lead, but Lourdes answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.  Megyesi tripled off the top of the fence in right and scored one batter later as Hayley Roberts (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.)  hit a sharp ground ball to short that was misplayed for an error.

Lourdes batted around in the fifth, scoring four times to break the game open.  Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) put the Gray Wolves on top with a bases loaded groundout that plated Yeager. A fielder's choice throwing error allowed Megyesi to score with the second run of the inning and Hillary West (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) delivered the big blow, a two-run single to left that scored Leslie Hafler (Randolph, Ohio/Waterloo H.S.) and Lauren Marstin (Brookneal, Va./William Campbell H.S.).

Kasey Graham (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) did the rest in the circle for Lourdes.  She scattered just six hits and allowed the two runs in the complete game win (4-11), striking out three and not walking anyone.

Taylor Hayes suffered the loss (2-3) for Siena Heights (17-16, 5-6 WHAC), allowing six runs, three of which were earned, and seven hits in 4.1 innings of work.  She walked two and struck out six.

Yeager, Megyesi, and Marstin all had two hits for Lourdes as part of the team's nine-hit attack.

Lourdes scored first in the opener as well as Chelsea Goebel (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) led off the game with a single, moved up on a passed ball and sacrifice bunt, and scored on Megyesi's groundout.

The Saints tied the game on a Katie O'Hotzke home run in the third and took the lead on a two-run double by Hayes in the fifth.  Lourdes trailed just 3-1 heading into the seventh when a two-run single by Anna Alcorta and a two-run double by Bitty Treece increased the visitors' lead to 7-1.

The Gray Wolves battled back in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three times before coming up short.  West had a groundout that plated Mosiniak with the bases loaded and Goebel delivered a two-run double.

O'Hotzke earned the win (10-8) in the circle, allowing three earned runs and six hits while striking out nine in a complete game effort.  Casey Cherry (Comstock Park, Mich./Comstock Park H.S.) suffered the loss (5-8), giving up seven runs and eight hits.

Goebel, Mosniak, and Marstin had two hits each to account for all six of the Gray Wolves' hits in the opener.

Lourdes (9-19, 4-6) will return to the diamond on Tuesday afternoon, traveling to Fort Wayne, Ind. to battle Indiana Tech.  First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 4 p.m.
