Lourdes closed out the 2013 regular season on Friday evening, splitting a doubleheader with Aquinas at Pacesetter Park.  The Gray Wolves won the opener 9-8 before falling 12-1 in the nightcap.

A six-run second inning put Lourdes on top for good in the opener and the Gray Wolves held on despite the Saints closing to within one and stranding the tying runner on third base in the seventh inning.

Ten batters came to the plate in the big inning.  Leah Silvestri (Navarre, Ohio/Fairless H.S.) started the scoring, reaching on a bases loaded fielder's choice which scored Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.).  Taylor Derr (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer H.S.) added a two-run double to score Lauren Marstin (Brookneal, Va./William Campbell H.S.) and Taylor Duvall (Newport, Mich./Jefferson H.S.).  Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) followed with a run-scoring single, scoring Silvestri.  Hayley Roberts (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) made it 6-0 Lourdes with a two-run double that plated both Derr and Megyesi.

Aquinas battled back with three runs in the third and pulled to within one, 6-5, in the fourth following Emily Corning's two-run home run.

Mosiniak's two-run double that scored Derr and Roberts in the bottom of the fourth answered the home run and Duvall hit a solo shot of her own in the fifth, her second of the season, to make it 9-5 Gray Wolves.

The Saints scored two runs in the sixth and pulled to within one in the seventh on Renae Tubergen's home run, but Aquinas would strand the tying run.

Casey Cherry (Comstock Park, Mich./Comstock Park H.S.) earned the win (7-9) in the circle, giving up five runs and five hits in four innings of work.  Marstin pitched the final three innings to earn her second save of the season.  Carlie Giarmo suffered the loss (10-5) for the Saints, giving up six runs, only one of which was earned, and six hits in 1.2 innings.

Derr, Megyesi, Roberts, Mosiniak, and Duvall had two hits each for the Gray Wolves as Lourdes pounded out 11 for the game.  Tubergen went 3-for-3 with three RBI to pace Aquinas' eight-hit attack.

Aquinas (22-15, 8-6 WHAC) scored four runs in the second to jump out to the early lead in game two.  Corning hit her second home run of the day and the Saints took advantage of two Lourdes errors.  The lead grew to 6-0 in the fifth before Lourdes scored its lone run.

Chelsea Goebel (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) doubled home Hillary West (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.), who led off the inning with a single and moved to third on Leslie Hafler's (Randolph, Ohio/Waterloo H.S.) first collegiate double.

The Saints added six more runs on five hits in the sixth inning to close out the game.

Goebel and Megyesi had two hits each in the nightcap for Lourdes as the Gray Wolves had nine hits in game two.  Corning drove home three runs while Lindsey Stewart went 3-for-4 to pace the Saints' 12-hit game.
