Lourdes picked up a doubleheader split in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon against Spring Arbor, dropping the opener 7-2 before rebounding for a 6-2 victory in the nightcap at Cougar Softball Field in Spring Arbor, Mich.
With the victory in game two, the Gray Wolves snapped a five-game losing streak and avenged three previous losses this season against the Cougars.
“I'm really proud of how we rebounded after that first game to get the win in game two,” head coach
Jo Ann Gordon said. “We came away with some timely hitting and had a good approach at the plate.”
Taylor Duvall (Newport, Mich./Jefferson H.S.) started the scoring for Lourdes in the second inning with her first collegiate home run, a solo blast to leftfield. Spring Arbor responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning, one of which was unearned, to take a 2-1 lead.
The Gray Wolves took the lead for good in the third though with a three-run uprising. Back-to-back bunt singles by
Chelsea Goebel (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) and
Ashley Yeager (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) to lead off the inning set the table for
Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.), who double home one with a two-bagger down the rightfield line to tie the game.
Hayley Roberts (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) then put Lourdes on top with a two-run single to right-center.
Yeager singled to lead off the fifth and Roberts added a one-out double to put two runners aboard before
Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) drove both home with a double to right-center, increasing the lead to 6-2.
Casey Cherry (Comstock Park, Mich./Comstock Park H.S.) took care of things in the circle for Lourdes, allowing just the one earned run on seven hits in the complete game victory (3-6). She struck out five and walked just two.
Yeager, Megyesi, and Roberts each had two hits to pace Lourdes nine-hit effort in the nightcap with Roberts and Mosiniak each driving home two runs.

In the opener Spring Arbor jumped on top quickly with three runs in the opening inning. The Cougars took advantage of a pair of walks before Amanda Youngheim hit a three-run home run to center. An unearned run in the fourth made it 4-0 Cougars before Lourdes found the scoreboard in the fifth.
Mosiniak led off the inning with a double and scored on a throwing error to cut the deficit to 4-1. Spring Arbor answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth though before Yeager hit her second home run of the season in the sixth to cap the scoring for Lourdes.
April Patnaude picked up the win (6-5) for the Cougars in the circle, surrendering two runs on five hits in six innings of work. She fanned two and did not walk anyone.
