Lourdes began play at the Saint Xavier Midwest Tournament on Sunday evening, dropping a 62-47 decision to Cincinnati Christian at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill.

Zach Steinmetz (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's H.S.) tallied a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds while
E.J. Blackwell (Rochester, Pa./Rochester H.S.) added 12 points, but the Gray Wolves were unable to overcome 34% shooting from the floor on the evening.

Aaron Ashley (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights H.S.) opened the game with a three-pointer before the Gray Wolves were held scoreless for the next five minutes, falling behind 10-3. The Eagles extended their lead to 16-5 with under eight minutes to play in the opening stanza. Cincinnati Christian led 27-12 heading into the final two minutes of the first half before Lourdes scored six of the final seven points. Cincinnati Christian led Lourdes 28-18 at intermission after holding the Gray Wolves to just 28% shooting over the opening 20 minutes.

Cincinnati Christian opened up a 16-point lead, 42-26, with 12:21 to play in the game and Lourdes was never able to cut its deficit to single digits the rest of the game.

DJ McCommons led Cincinnati Christian (10-5) with 19 points while Mac Constable added 11 points. Four Eagles finished the game in double figures.Â

Lourdes (9-4) will return to the court on Monday afternoon as the Gray Wolves face Marian on day two of the three day event. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. EST at the Shannon Center.
