Lourdes University's women's basketball team wrapped up its non-conference schedule, as well as the 2014 calendar year, on Saturday evening, falling 69-50 to Washington and Jefferson at the Rike Center in Westerville, Ohio as part of the Smokey Ballenger Classic.
 
Lauren Tilden (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna H.S.) was the lone Gray Wolf to tally double figures, scoring 12 points on the evening.
 
After Lourdes scored the game's first basket, Washington and Jefferson scored seven straight points, and held the Gray Wolves without a field goal for the next four minutes, while building a 9-3 lead.  After trailing by as many as eight points, Lourdes closed to within three, 15-12, with eight minutes remaining before halftime.  A 12-3 run by the Presidents over the next four minutes pushed the lead to 12 and Washington and Jefferson led by as many as 14 points in the stanza before taking a 35-23 lead into the locker room.
 
The Gray Wolves cut their deficit to seven less than two minutes into the second half before the lead was pushed back to double figures by the Presidents.  Lourdes would not get any closer the rest of the game.  A 10-0 Washington and Jefferson run increased the lead to 20 with just over four minutes to play as the Presidents maintained a 15-point lead the rest of the way.
 
Lourdes shot just 31.1% from the floor, including 2-of-15 (13%) from three-point range in the loss.  The Gray Wolves were just 10-of-19 (52.6%) from the free throw line as well.  Jesse Fidler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) and Molea Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison H.S.) each scored eight points.  Niki Meyer (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center H.S.) pulled down a team-high eight rebounds but the Gray Wolves were outrebounded 49-38 for the night.
 
Taylor Cortazzo led Washington and Jefferson (8-1) with 23 points while Valerie Dunlap added a double-double with 14 points and 13 boards.  The Presidents outscored Lourdes 36-18 in the paint on the night.
 
Lourdes (5-10) will return home to Tam-o-Shanter next Saturday, Jan. 3, as the Gray Wolves host Northwestern Ohio.  Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
