Softball Falls 1-0 and 3-0 on Day Two of Spring Trip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Lourdes University's softball team was involved in a pair of pitcher's duels on Monday afternoon as the Gray Wolves fell 1-0 to fifth-ranked Saint Xavier and 3-0 to Spring Arbor at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.

Kasey Graham (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) kept Saint Xavier off of the scoreboard until the bottom of the sixth inning.  The Cougars had a runner on third in the third, the bases loaded in the fourth but could not score and Chelsea Goebel (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) threw a runner out at the plate in the fifth to keep the game scoreless.

Saint Xavier pitcher Katie Hoolihan kept Lourdes off base until the seventh though, striking out 15 Gray Wolves on the afternoon.

The Cougars struck for the lone run in the sixth on a single followed by an error that put runners on second and third.  With one out, Kasey Kanaga hit a sacrifice fly to right for the game's lone run.

Ashley Yeager (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) broke up the perfect game in the seventh with an infield single to short and went to second on a throwing error, but was stranded.

Graham did not walk anyone in the contest, scattering just six hits while striking out one, but still suffered the loss (1-1).

Amanda Hainlen was the only Saint Xavier (8-0) player with two hits in the contest.

In game two Spring Arbor struck first in the second inning.  A single and two walks loaded the bases before Alika Kingsbury singled home a run.  The game remained 1-0 until the seventh when a pair of unearned runs provided insurance for Cougars.

Lourdes managed just four hits in the game, a lead-off triple by Alyssa Schaub (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) and singles by Haley Roberts (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.), Yeager, and Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.).

Erika Lehr went the distance in the circle for Spring Arbor (4-2), striking out four, while Casey Cherry (Comstock Park, Mich./Comstock Park H.S.) suffered the loss (0-1) for Lourdes.  She gave up nine hits while striking out two.

Lourdes (1-3) will return to the diamond on Tuesday in Clermont, facing Marian (Ind.) at 3 p.m. and Trinity International at 7 p.m.
