Lourdes University's softball team dropped its opening game on Tuesday afternoon 9-4 to Marian (Ind.) at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla., but rebounded to score a 13-0 shutout of Trinity International later in the evening.

Marian jumped on top quickly in game one, scoring five times in the opening inning.  The Knights took advantage of two Lourdes errors which plated three unearned runs, while also registering five hits, including three doubles.  Marian added two more runs in the second, including one unearned tally, to increase the lead to 7-0.

The Gray Wolves found the scoreboard in the bottom of the second as Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) reached on an error, stole second, and scored on a double by Hillary West (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.).

The Knights plated two more runs in the top of the third, pushing the lead to 9-1, before Hanna Allison (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) kept Marian off of the scoreboard over the final four frames.

Lourdes batted around in the bottom of the third, scoring three times.  A two-run double by Haley Roberts (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) and a run-scoring single by Megyesi pulled the Gray Wolves to within 9-4.  Lourdes was unable to score the rest of the way either, as Amanda Winthrow came on in relief.  Winthrow earned the win with her 4.2 innings of scoreless relief, scattering five hits and striking out three.

Roberts finished the game 3-for-4 offensively while Alyssa Schaub (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) went 2-for-3.  The Gray Wolves tallied nine hits as a team, but stranded 11 for the game.  Marian (2-1) had 15 hits, with everyone in the lineup recording at least one.  The Knights also took advantage of five Lourdes errors.

Lourdes snapped its four-game losing streak against Trinity International with a five-inning run rule victory Tuesday night.  The Gray Wolves batted around in the opening inning, scoring six times, taking advantage of a pair of Trojan errors.  Ashley Yeager (Sylvania,Ohio/Northview H.S.) and Megyesi had back-to-back triples in the inning while West and Kayla Encalado (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) each added RBI singles.

Two more Trinity International errors in the four led to two more runs before Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) added a run-scoring double in the fourth, giving the Gray Wolves a 10-0 lead.

Yeager and Megyesi each tallied RBI singles in the fifth while Emily Gawronski's (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) run-scoring ground out capped the scoring.

In the circle Casey Cherry (Comstock Park, Mich./Comstock Park H.S.) went the distance to earn the win (1-1), allowing just two singles on the evening.  The senior struck out four and did not walk anyone.

Megyesi finished the game 3-for-4 while Yeager and West had two hits each as part of the Gray Wolves' nine-hit attack.
