Lourdes Bats Go Quiet Thursday in Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
With cooler temperatures arriving in Clermont, Fla. on Thursday afternoon, Lourdes University's bats cooled off as well, as the Gray Wolves managed just two hits on the evening in dropping a 7-0 decision to fifth-ranked Saint Xavier and a 3-1 game to Urbana at the National Training Center.

In the opener against Saint Xavier, Nicole Nonnemacher threw a no-hitter, allowing just one baserunner in the contest.  She hit Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) with a pitch with two outs in the opening inning.  Nonnemacher struck out 13 Gray Wolves in the victory.

The Cougars scored three times in the opening inning, taking advantage of three Lourdes errors to score a pair of unearned runs.  Casey Cherry (Comstock Park, Mich./Comstock Park H.S.) kept Saint Xavier off of the scoreboard again until the seventh inning when the Cougars tallied four more runs.  Five hits and an error in the inning contributed to Saint Xavier (10-1) batting around.

Cherry suffered the loss, giving up nine hits but just four earned runs in six innings of work.  She struck out four and walked one.

Urbana (5-3) also scored in the top of the first inning, again taking advantage of a Lourdes miscue.  The Blue Knights added another run in the third before Lourdes found the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth.  Alyssa Schaub (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) led off with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ashley Yeager (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.).  Schaub then stole third and scored when the throw went into leftfield.

The Blue Knights added an unearned run in the seventh inning for an insurance tally.

Kasey Graham (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) suffered the loss, tossing a complete game while allowing just one earned run.  She gave up nine hits but did not walk anyone, striking out three.

Lauren Anderson limited Lourdes to just two hits in the game, a two-out bunt single by Taylor Derr (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer H.S.) in the second and a lead-off single by Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) in the fourth.

Lourdes (2-6) will return to the diamond on Thursday afternoon as the Gray Wolves face Marian (Ind.) at 1 p.m. and Mount Vernon Nazarene at 3 p.m.
