After a 15-day layoff due to weather, Lourdes University's softball team returned to the diamond on Sunday afternoon, opening Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play by dropping a doubleheader 8-0 and 12-6 to 25
th-ranked Davenport at the Farmers Athletic Complex in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Emily Maves limited Lourdes to just one hit in the opener, a single by
Hayley Roberts (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) in the fourth inning.

Davenport scored four times in the second, added a single run in the fourth, and closed out the game with three more in the fifth inning. Amber Getty went 2-for-3 with two doubles and five runs batted in to lead the Panthers in the opener.

Maves struck out 11 in five innings of work to earn the win (9-2), allowing just the one hit and walking two.Â
Kasey Graham (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) suffered the loss (3-4), giving up the eight runs on 11 hits.

The Panthers scored first in game two as well with a run in the second, only to have Lourdes answer and tie the game in the top of the third.Â
Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) reached on a two-out, three-base error, scoring
Alyssa Schaub (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) after she had doubled.

Davenport scored five times in the bottom of the third, three coming off of a home run by Paige Sant'Angelo, to build a 6-1 advantage.

Lourdes answered with five runs of its own in the fourth though.Â
Hillary West (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) delivered a two-run double that scored
Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) and
Erica Marvaso (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.). After a Panther pitching change,
Alyssa Schaub (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) hit a three-run home run, her first as a Gray Wolf, to tie the game.

The game stayed tied at six until the bottom of the sixth when Davenport (18-4, 4-0 WHAC) had the first five batters reach in the inning on the way to a six-run inning. The Panthers did all their damage with just three hits, taking advantage of three walks and three wild pitches in the inning.

Schaub led Lourdes with three hits and three RBI in game two while
Kayla Encalado (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) had two of Lourdes 10 hits in the game.Â

Alyssa Eastman allowed just one run in three innings of work for the win (7-1) in the circle while
Hanna Allison (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S) suffered the loss (1-2), allowing five runs without retiring a batter.

Lourdes (6-8, 0-2) will return to action on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Adrian, Mich. to face Siena Heights in doubleheader action. First pitch in game one is set for 3:30 p.m.
