Siena Heights Wins Twice over Lourdes in Walk-off Fashion

In each game on Wednesday afternoon Lourdes University took the lead in the top of the seventh inning, only to see Siena Heights respond with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to sweep a doubleheader from the Gray Wolves 7-6 and 6-5 at Christensen Memorial Field in Adrian, Mich.
 
Lourdes wasted little time jumping on the scoreboard in the opener, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first.  Haley Roberts (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) doubled to center scoring Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) and Alyssa Schaub (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) with the game's first runs.
 
After the Saints cut the Gray Wolves' lead in half with a run in the bottom of the first Lourdes retook a two-run advantage in the third.  Erica Marvaso (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) scampered home on a bases loaded throwing error.
 
Siena Heights took the lead in the fourth with three runs and increased the advantage to 5-3 with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.  The Gray Wolves tied the game in the sixth on a two-run triple to right by Megyesi, scoring Schaub and Kayla Encalado (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.).
 
In the seventh, Chelsea Goebel (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) blooped a double just fair into left field, scoring Taylor Derr (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer H.S.) with the go-ahead run.
 
Siena Heights answered in the bottom of the inning though as RBI singles by Megan Jones and Morgan Warfield with two outs gave the Saints the victory.
 
Katie O'Hotzke earned the win (10-5) in the circle for Siena Heights, giving up just three earned runs in the complete game effort.  She yielded seven hits and seven walks while striking out six.  Kasey Graham (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) suffered the loss (3-5), giving up seven runs on 11 hits while striking out two.
 
Roberts was the only Gray Wolf with a mulit-hit game in the opener while Taylor Hayes went 2-for-2 with three runs batted in for the Saints.
 
Siena Heights (11-7, 2-2 WHAC) took the lead first in game two, scoring three times in the third while adding a single run I the fifth.  After managing just two hits through the first five innings, Lourdes bats awoke in the sixth.  Back-to-back singles by Encalado and Megyesi, the latter followed with a fielding error, but the Gray Wolves on the scoreboard.
 
Trailing 4-1 heading into the seventh, Lourdes erupted for four runs in the inning to take the lead.  Ashley Yeager (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) scored on a wild pitch before Goebel doubled home Derr, who was pinch-running for Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.), who delivered a triple.  Schaub singled home Goebel  with the tying run and Encalado reached on a two-out error that allowed Schaub to cross the plate.
 
Again the Saints rallied in the bottom of the inning though.  Warfield tied the game with a double and Tiffany Jones singled home the winning run with one out.
 
Hillary West (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) had two of Lourdes seven hits in the night cap.
 
Taylor Hayes earned the win (1-1) in relief for the Saints while Sam Merillat (Hudson, Mich./Hudson H.S.) suffered the loss (0-1).
 
Lourdes (6-10, 0-4) is scheduled to step out of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Thursday afternoon, traveling to Findlay, Ohio to face the University of Findlay.  First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
