Lourdes Splits at Michigan-Dearborn to Conclude Road Slate

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Lourdes wrapped up its 2014 road schedule on Thursday evening, splitting a doubleheader against Michigan-Dearborn at Ladywood High School in Livonia, Mich.  The Gray Wolves fell to the Wolverines 8-4 in the opener before rebounding for a 13-4 win in the nightcap.

Squandered chances were the theme in the opener for Lourdes as the Gray Wolves stranded 14 runners on base, including 10 in scoring position.  Lourdes had the bases loaded with no one out in the opening inning but failed to score and left two runners aboard in the second.

A two-run home run by the Wolverines in the bottom of the second put the hosts on top before Hillary West (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) answered with a two-run round-tripper of her own in the top of the third to tie the game.

A fielder's choice with a throwing error in the fifth allowed Lourdes to take the lead as West crossed the plate.  Michigan-Dearborn answered with a two-out single in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at three.

Again Lourdes took the lead, this time in the sixth as Alyssa Schaub (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) singled to lead off the inning and stole second, before a pair of wild pitches allowed her to score.

The Wolverines responded in the bottom of the sixth, batting around while scoring five times.  Lourdes threatened in the seventh, but left two runners aboard without scoring.

Schaub, Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) and Chelsea Goebel (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) each had two hits in the opener as Lourdes tallied nine hits along with receiving five walks and four hit batsmen.

Kayla Goodwin picked up the win (5-9) in the circle for Michigan-Dearborn, going the distance and striking out four.  Casey Cherry (Comstock Park, Mich./Comstock Park H.S.) suffered the loss (6-8), giving up seven earned runs and 10 hits in 5.2 innings of work.

Michigan-Dearborn (18-26, 6-12 WHAC) jumped on top in the opening inning of game two, scoring three runs, the final two on a two-run home run.  Lourdes finally got on the scoreboard in the third as Goebel singled and scored when Schaub's fly ball to left was dropped for a three-base error.

The Wolverines immediately answered with a run in the third to go on top 4-1 before the Gray Wolves batted around in both the fourth and fifth innings, scoring 12 times in the two frames to end the game on the run rule.

Hayley Roberts (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) singled home Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) to start the uprising in the fourth before Mosiniak delivered a two-run single.  Ashley Yeager (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) had a RBI single while Schaub delivered a sacrifice fly to increase the lead to 6-4.  Taylor Derr (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer H.S.) dropped a double fair down the leftfield line to score another run before Hanna Allison's (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) pinch-hit RBI single closed out the seven-run inning.

Breyahna Guy (Romulus, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) had a pinch-hit RBI hit in the fifth while Schaub was credited for a sacrifice fly when another outfielder dropped a fly ball.  Megyesi added a two-run triple, her second three-bagger of the game, before Allison singled her home with the final run of the contest.

Derr, Megyesi, Roberts, Allison, and Mosiniak all had two hits each in the nightcap, as Lourdes pounded out 13 hits.

Kasey Graham (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) picked up the win (5-12) in the circle, tossing a complete game six-hitter.  She did not walk anyone while striking out seven.

Lourdes (13-23, 6-10) will wrap up the 2014 regular season at home on Sunday morning, hosting Cornerstone in a doubleheader.  First pitch in game one of the twinbill is set for 11 a.m. on Senior Day at Pacesetter Park.
