Box Score 2 The 2014 softball season came to an end on Wednesday evening for Lourdes University as the Gray Wolves dropped a pair of games in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament held at Pacesetter Park. Lourdes fell in the opener 3-2 to Madonna before dropping a 10-1 decision to Concordia (Mich.) in the second contest of the double-elimination event.
The seventh-seeded Gray Wolves, serving as the visiting team in the opening game, wasted little time jumping on the scoreboard.
Alyssa Schaub (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Ashley Yeager (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.), and scored on
Bre Megyesi's (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) single up the middle.
Lourdes led the second-seeded Crusaders until the third when a two-out single by Emma Cook tied the game at one. The Gray Wolves immediately answered though in the fourth.
Hillary West (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) led off with a single, moved to second on
Erica Marvaso's (Brownstown, Ohio/Woodhaven H.S.) sacrifice bunt, and scored on
Megan Mosiniak's (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) RBI single to right.
Madonna (32-8) took the lead in the fifth with a two-run single by Erin Mayes which proved to be the deciding hit in the game.
Bree Crampton earned the win (18-5) in the circle for the Crusaders with three innings of scoreless relief in which she allowed just one base runner, a two-out walk in the fifth. She struck out seven, including the final five outs.
Kasey Graham (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) suffered the loss (5-14), giving up the three runs on seven hits in the complete game effort. Lourdes managed just five hits in the opener.
Facing elimination against sixth-seeded Concordia, the Gray Wolves fell behind before coming to the plate. The Cardinals scored a two-out run in the first inning and continued to add on from there. A two-run home run from Amy Trionfi in the second and three more runs in the third gave Concordia a 6-0 lead.
The Cardinals increased the lead to seven in the sixth before Lourdes found the scoreboard. Megyesi walked with one out and stole second. She later scored on a two-out hit by West for the Gray Wolves' lone run of the night.
Concordia (27-22) scored three times in the seventh to round out the scoring.
Corrina Rotondo allowed just four hits and the one run in the complete game victory (14-8) in the circle while
