Lourdes Posts Back-to-Back Shutouts of Indiana Tech

Casey Cherry (Comstock Park, Mich./Comstock Park H.S.) and Kasey Graham (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) each tossed shutouts on Sunday afternoon at Pacesetter Park while Lourdes bats combined for 23 runs and 25 hits over two games as the Gray Wolves swept a doubleheader from Indiana Tech 8-0 and 15-0.
 
With the two victories, the Gray Wolves have now matched the school record with a four-game winning streak for the second time this season.
 
In the opener Cherry limited the Warriors to just two hits and walked just one over five innings.  The senior struck out three to earn the win (4-2).
 
Lourdes jumped on top with a pair of runs in the opening inning.  Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) squeezed home the first run with a bunt single and Hayley Roberts (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) followed with a run-scoring double.  Megyesi added a two-run single in the second and Roberts delivered another run-scoring hit as well giving the Gray Wolves a 5-0 lead after two.
 
Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) delivered a sacrifice fly in the third before Ashley Yeager (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) plated another run with a triple to the gap in right-center.  Kayla Encalado (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) drove home the final run of the game with a double to left-center.
 
Megyesi went 2-for-2 with two RBI while Roberts had two hits in three at bats while driving home two runs.  Taylor Derr (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer H.S.) also had two hits as part of the Gray Wolves 10-hit attack in the opener.
 
Graham also surrendered just two hits and one walk in earning the game two win (4-5).  She struck out one in the five inning complete game.
 
Lourdes provided all 15 runs of offense in two innings.  The Gray Wolves sent 12 batters to the plate in the second, scoring seven times.  Mosiniak started the scoring with a sacrifice fly and Yeager drove home the second run when she reached on a fielder's choice.  Encalado was credited with a sacrifice fly as well before Megyesi drove home two runs with a single to left.  Roberts followed with a double to right before Hillary West (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) produced her second single of the inning to drive home Roberts with the seventh run of the frame.
 
The Gray Wolves continued to pile it on with eight more runs in the fourth.  Erica Marvaso (Brownstown, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) singled home Roberts.  Marvaso and West both scored on a failed pickoff attempt at first with the bases loaded, making it 10-0 Lourdes.  Breyahna Guy (Romulus, Mich./Woodhaven H.S.) and Emily Gawronski (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) both had pinch hit RBI doubles in the inning as well.
 
Marvaso went 3-for-3 in the game while West had three hits in four at bats.  Yeager and Roberts both had two hits as well while Lourdes tallied 15 safeties in all as the Gray Wolves moved back to the .500 mark both overall and in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.
 
Lourdes (10-10, 4-4 WHAC) will return to the diamond on Tuesday evening, traveling to Findlay, Ohio to face the Findlay Oilers in a make-up of a previously postponed doubleheader.  First pitch in game one is set for 3:30 p.m.
