Box Score 2 Lourdes stepped out of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Tuesday afternoon, traveling to Anderson Field in Findlay, Ohio to face NCAA Division II University of Findlay, but the Gray Wolves came up on the short end of a doubleheader falling to the Oilers 9-0 and 12-4.
Nicole Motuza limited Lourdes to just four hits over five innings in game one for the win (1-3) and the Oilers took advantage of four Gray Wolf errors in the win.
Findlay scored three times in the first and added two more in the second to take the early lead. Four more runs crossed the plate in the third.
Casey Cherry (Comstock Park, Mich./Comstock Park H.S.) suffered the loss (4-3), giving up all nine runs, only four of which were earned, and eight hits in 2.2 innings of work.
Megan Turners went 3-for-3 with a double and four runs batted in to lead Findlay in the opener. No Gray Wolves had more than one hit.
The Oilers took a 2-0 lead in the opening inning of game two before Lourdes tied the contest in the next frame.
Hillary West (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) and
Megan Mosiniak (Swanton, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) both doubled to produce the first run and
Kayla Encalado (Walbridge, Ohio/Lake H.S.) added a RBI single to score Mosiniak with the tying run.
Lourdes took the lead in the third, taking advantage of a pair of Findlay errors.
Ashley Yeager (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) reached on a three-base error and scored when
Bre Megyesi (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) reached on another miscue.
Findlay (13-8) took the lead for good in the bottom of the third, scoring four times to build a 6-3 lead. Lourdes got one run back in the fourth on an Encalado single that plated Mosiniak, who doubled for the second time in the contest.
The Oilers added a run in the bottom of the fourth, two unearned tallies in the fifth, and closed the game out with a three-run home run by Morgan Arnold in the sixth inning.
Mosiniak and Encalado each had two of Lourdes six total hits in the game. The Oilers tallied 14 hits, with Abby Funk going 4-for-4 with three runs batted in.
Bonnie Zappitelli earned the win (1-1), giving up four runs and five hits in four innings in the circle.
Kasey Graham (Oregon, Ohio/Clay H.S.) suffered the loss (4-6), allowing six runs and eight hits in 2.1 innings of action.
Lourdes (10-12) will return to the diamond on Thursday afternoon. The Gray Wolves were originally slated to travel to Bethel (Ind.), but will now head to South Euclid, Ohio to face Notre Dame (Ohio). First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is slated for 3 p.m. at Campus Field.
