Lourdes recorded its second road shutout in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves blanked Concordia (Mich.) 1-0 at Cardinal Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich.
With the victory, Lourdes returned to the .500 mark both overall and in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play and moved the Gray Wolves into sixth place in the league ledger.
"This was a huge team effort today and we got some big individual performances," head coach
Jackie Donovan said after the match. "We're very proud of all of our ladies today."
Concordia outshot Lourdes 8-3 in the opening 45 minutes, but
Erika Brinkman (Kalida, Ohio/Kalida H.S.) kept the Cardinals, which entered the match receiving votes in the latest NAIA top-25 poll, off of the scoreboard, making four first half saves.
The Gray Wolves broke through with the lone goal of the match 5:56 into the second stanza as
Jessica Grindle (Northwood, Ohio/Northwood H.S.) fired a blast from more than 30 yards out that beat Cardinal keeper Maria Lulgjuraj.
Brinkman then kept Concordia (9-5-1, 5-2 WHAC) off of the scoreboard the remainder of the match, making seven saves in all to earn her sixth clean sheet of the year.
Lulgjuraj made four stops for the Cardinals as Concordia finished the match with a 15-7 shot advantage. Both schools were awarded two corner kick opportunities in the match.
Lourdes (6-6-1, 3-3) will wrap up its three-match road trip, and play its final regular season match away from home on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Lawrence Tech. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at the LTU Athletic Field in Southfield, Mich.
