Three goals in the final 30 minutes of the match proved to be the difference on Wednesday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium as Aquinas defeated Lourdes 3-0.
The two schools played a scoreless opening 45 minutes of soccer despite the Saints holding a 7-1 advantage in shots.
Erika Brinkman (Kalida, Ohio/Kalida H.S.) made five saves in the first half to keep Aquinas off of the scoreboard.
The Saints broke the scoreless tie in the 64
th minute as Casey Westveer picked up a loose ball at the top of the box and scored from 25 yards out. Westveer added her second goal of the match 14 minutes later, receiving a feed from Jessica Parry and scoring from the top of the box.
Mariah Otolski added the final tally with 5:43 remaining. Allison VanPatten chipped the ball over the defense to the top of the six and Otolski finished the scoring.
Aquinas (10-4-2, 6-2-1 WHAC) outshot Lourdes 15-6 for the match and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Brinkman finished the match with seven stops while Sarina Rabideau made three saves in relief for the Saints while earning the win.
Lourdes (8-7-1, 5-4) will close out the regular season at home on Saturday afternoon. The Gray Wolves will entertain 15
th-ranked Siena Heights at Wildcat Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. with Senior Day activities taking place prior to the match.
