Second Half Rally Pushes Lourdes by Silver Lake

Lourdes rallied from a 12-point deficit with less than 12 minutes remaining on Saturday afternoon to defeat Silver Lake 63-59 in a neutral site game played at the Shannon Center in Chicago, Ill.

Zach Steinmetz (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's H.S.) and E.J. Blackwell (Rochester, Pa./Rochester H.S.) each tallied double-doubles in the victory for the Gray Wolves.  Steinmetz tallied a game-high 19 points and 12 rebounds while making 8-of-13 shots from the floor.  Blackwell added 18 points and 11 boards for Lourdes.

The game was tied at 19 with 6:43 to play in the first half before the Lakers went on a 13-2 run to close the stanza and build a 32-21 lead at the break.  Silver Lake shot 51.9% from the floor in the opening 20 minutes while holding Lourdes to just a 34.6% clip.

The lead grew to as many as 13 in the second half, and was still 12, 44-32, with 11:19 remaining.  Lourdes scored six straight points to start a 21-3 run over the next eight minutes as the Gray Wolves battled back to take a lead that they would not relinquish the rest of the way.

The Gray Wolves led by as many as seven with 1:29 left after a tip-in from Anthony Swanigan (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike H.S.), only to see the Lakers close to within two in the final seconds.

Lourdes outrebounded Silver Lake (0-1) 41-30 for the night to help overcome 21 Gray Wolf turnovers.

Austin Allen-Walker led Silver Lake with 18 points while Stevens Alexis chipped in 11 points.

Lourdes (2-0) will head to Orrville, Ohio next Saturday to face Akron Wayne.  Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at the Boyer Health & Physical Education Center.
