Lourdes was unable to find the back of the net on the road Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves suffered a 3-0 setback to Cornerstone at the CU Soccer Stadium in Grand Rapids, Mich.
"The girls played a tough opponent on the road tonight, but they did not put their heads down after conceding an early goal," head coach
Jackie Donovan said afterwards. "They brought a good energy into tonight's match even though the score line was not in our favor."
The Golden Eagles took the lead 13:36 into the contest as Kerri Hoffman headed home a cross from Jessica Erny.
The match remained 1-0 into intermission, but Cornerstone needed just 26 seconds after the break to increase the lead. Alexys Riksen tallied an unassisted goal to double the Golden Eagles advantage.
Cornerstone (7-4, 2-2 WHAC) added a late insurance goal with 4:17 remaining as Hoffman connected on her second tally of the night, with Josie Litty earning the assist.
The Golden Eagles outshot Lourdes 19-4 for the match, including a 12-1 advantage on goal.
Erika Brinkman (Kalida, Ohio/Kalida H.S.) made nine saves for the Gray Wolves while Allison Snowden stopped the only shot she faced for Cornerstone.
Lourdes (4-5-1, 1-2) will return home to Wildcat Stadium on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Indiana Tech. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
